TOPMAN WINTER 2015
Swinging back into the ‘60’s and ‘70’s once again, designer Gordon Richardson and the team of Topman Desing took on yet another trip, this time more psychedelic, for day one of LC:M here in London.
Flares, faux furs (seemingly shaved for even greater impact) and multi-tonal shearling led the Topman Design ensemble, this time taking touchstones from far East and glam hippie Scottish pop band Bay City Rollers.
East meets West merged effortlessly taking traditional geometric prints from a bygone group of vivid individuals and band tartans applying them to welted, frayed and sleeveless silhouettes.
Mork and Mindy boiler suits and poodle-esque volumes of outerwear might never make it to the shop floor consumers. But the design team presented slim-suiting paired with ombre mohair afghan-inspired ponchos, and metallic panel bowling shoes; this collection was more wearable than costume.
Richardson, Topman’s design director, reassured us: “This is a creative outlet…and we are looking ahead so that at some point, a lot of these ideas will filter down. At the show I like to instill an atmosphere, create a feeling.”
